Walk Cycle
Animating a walk-cycle from the front is pretty hard Just thought I'd share that. I'm animating a character for a game I'm making as part of a group at uni. A walk cycle from the side is fine, but took me a while to get my head around doing one from the front. I guess it's the foreshortening that makes it hard. I'm also attempting to model a car in 3D with Maya and have a bunch of other stuff due within the next few weeks so I haven't uploaded anything for a while (that's my excuse anyway).
I have some cool ideas for things but I won't be able to do anything with them until I get through this other work. So hopefully by mid-June I'll be able to start working on them

Revelation
I've come to the end of the Bible now. Read through the whole thing (well, I have the last chapter to read tonight, but I don't think there's a twist at the end). I'm going to miss reading it. Maybe I'll start again from the beginning.
The Revelation was very strange though. I don't think i understood a lot of it so i might have to try and find a guide or something, so I can understand it more clearly. I did find where all the imagery of flying angels and people on clouds with harps came from, though. Rev chapter 14 seems to contain all the cartoon cliches.
One thing that has been bothering me lately is the 'discovery' that the sign of the Beast is 616 and not 666. This is hardly new. Scholars have known for a long time that the number could be 616 rather than 666. But the media seems to be hyping it up and implying that the Bible is wrong and there's a mistake and therefore all Christians are stupid... Okay, maybe they didn't go that far, but it's still annoying.
The number isn't important anyway - it's just the numerical value of the letters in 'the Creatures' name:
And no one could get a job or even buy in any shop without the permit of that mark, which was either the name of the Creature or the code number of his name. Here is a puzzle that calls for careful thought to solve it. Let those who are able, interpret this code: the numerical values of the letters in his ['the Creatures'] name add to 666 [or 616].

Just a quick update to say thanks to my friends, watchers and random commenters on here for the support, encouragement and feedback on my work. Apparently people have looked at this humble page over 100,000 times now, so thanks to you lurkers too :)
It’s quite a milestone. I remember when I first signed up back in 2004, I was interested in photography but wasn’t particularly good. I still have a lot of my old work in my scraps if you're interested. But from the feedback and inspiration I found on here, I was able to quickly develop and hone my talent to become the 100,000-pageview-receiveing photographer you see (read) before you
GIMP video tutorials
If you’ve been keeping up with my site, you should know I’ve posted a couple of GIMP video tutorials recently. One was inspired by Tordo (https://www.deviantart.com/tordo)'s work Unexpectedly where I recreated the patterned sky effect in GIMP (then the next night I showed how to do the same thing in photoshop... it's on the same page).
Then the other night I recreated my most popular Youtube tutorial (+40k views on there :O) on getting vintage colours in Photoshop (in that post i also explain how and why it works).
So now you can get vintage colours in GIMP too. I remade it entirely in Ubuntu (no going back to windows for editing this time) and it’s av

I'm back from NYC. What an awesome place 8-)
Got 265 photos that I like. Put them on Flickr here: http://flickr.com/photos/lukeroberts/sets/72157604145621082/
But if you don't have half an hour to look through them, I've picked out my favourite 18 which you can see here: http://flickr.com/photos/lukeroberts/sets/72157604150662593/
Also, just put a new tutorial on my site, about applying a macro lens effect digitally with Photoshop.

lukeroberts.us
I finally got around to making myself a proper website. I decided to go the blog/wordpress route for ease of updating and themeability. It’s been going for a few days now, and so far has been updated every day :O
http://lukeroberts.us – not really any reason for the .us extension. It was just available and looks kinda nice. Saves one keystroke too.
Not sure how long I could keep updating it every day, especially since I’m going to New York City next week 8-) Just going for a week for a bit of a holiday. Should be good – hopefully many photos will follow.
Oh I'm in London now, in case people haven't noticed.

it's great to read it all the way through... i did it a few times whilst in college (though I did kinda skip over some of the genealogies in Numbers!) and it was quite rewarding. I need to get back to it, but once you get to real life (job, wife, kid(s)) reading time is at a SERIOUS premium... guess I just need to get back to it!
As far as digging into the meaning in revelation, there are lots of good books, but the bottom line is that it is necessary to remember that this was an apocryphal (stories with a "hidden" meaning) book which was written SPECIFICALLY for the early church enduring persecution. It isn't really talking about the end of the world - it's mostly an attempt at putting in human terms how surpassingly wonderful heaven will be and that there is still going to be lots of junk and difficulties to face while we live on this earth (again, mostly for the audience in the first century - but we can definitely benefit from the pictures of heaven).
Be well, and keep up the IMPORTANT study!
