Just a quick update to say thanks to my friends, watchers and random commenters on here for the support, encouragement and feedback on my work. Apparently people have looked at this humble page over 100,000 times now, so thanks to you lurkers too :)

It’s quite a milestone. I remember when I first signed up back in 2004, I was interested in photography but wasn’t particularly good. I still have a lot of my old work in my scraps if you're interested. But from the feedback and inspiration I found on here, I was able to quickly develop and hone my talent to become the 100,000-pageview-receiveing photographer you see (read) before you. Although it’s really my tutorials and resources rather than the photos that account for those views, but still...

I thought I’d mark the occasion by looking back at a screenshot I took back in 2004 upon receiving my 1000th pageview.

GIMP video tutorials

Mon Mar 31, 2008, 11:34 AM
If you’ve been keeping up with my site, you should know I’ve posted a couple of GIMP video tutorials recently. One was inspired by ~Tordo's work Unexpectedly where I recreated the patterned sky effect in GIMP (then the next night I showed how to do the same thing in photoshop... it's on the same page).

Then the other night I recreated my most popular Youtube tutorial (+40k views on there :O) on getting vintage colours in Photoshop (in that post i also explain how and why it works).

So now you can get vintage colours in GIMP too. I remade it entirely in Ubuntu (no going back to windows for editing this time) and it’s available in High Quality because of that.

Anyway, my time in London is coming to an end. Something like 3 weeks left here. Then back to Australia 8-)

lukeroberts.us

I finally got around to making myself a proper website. I decided to go the blog/wordpress route for ease of updating and themeability. It’s been going for a few days now, and so far has been updated every day :O

http://lukeroberts.us – not really any reason for the .us extension. It was just available and looks kinda nice. Saves one keystroke too.

Not sure how long I could keep updating it every day, especially since I’m going to New York City next week 8-) Just going for a week for a bit of a holiday. Should be good – hopefully many photos will follow.

Oh I'm in London now, in case people haven't noticed.

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 13, 2007, 7:31 AM

It’s been ages since I’ve uploaded anything here. I guess partly because I’ve been busy working, partly because I haven’t felt particularly creative (because of the working no-doubt :P), and because my standards are too high.

So many people watch this account now, I feel like the work I upload needs to be my best stuff every time or else I let people down :( Silly, I know, but that’s just how I’ve felt.

But maybe people have forgotten about me in my long absence and I can upload stuff without having to think too much about it.

Which is what I’m going to do. I have a bit of a back-log of things to put on here, so I’m going to try putting something new up each day.

To start, a couple of months ago I took my 10,000th photo with my 300D. I didn’t realise until I got home and saw the file names had reset. So that was good... though I’ve read that the shutter on the 300D wears out around the 10k photo mark. Might be time for an upgrade.
